Project Deliverables.

Project Part 1 – Business Case

Investigate requirements and business needs for a real or fictitious business that requires a project.  A business case must be written using the following outline.   Refer to the template on BBLearn.

  • Introduction: Description of Business and its operations and its activities. This section can also describe a situation that needs a project. Include both current condition, and predictable/new context where computing problems/needs may raise in the future.
  • Description of Project – What is the project? Why is it necessary? What are the issues that require a solution?
  • Suggested solution – What is the solution? What does the solution include?  Provide one or more diagrams/schematics/images to show what the final product would look like.
  • Feasibility and high level cost estimation
  • Benefits of the proposed solution to the organization. What is the business value provided by the project? What are the tangible and intangible benefits
  • Who are the main stakeholders?  What is their role in the project?  What is their impact on the project?

Business case must be approved by your instructor before you begin on subsequent parts of the project

Project Part 2: Charter, Stakeholder Register, Communication Plan and Scope Baseline

  • Charter: This part requires you to initiate the project by writing a detailed project charter. Charter should include project identification, project objectives, deliverables, milestone dates and description, constraints (resources and technology), assumptions and risks.

Your instructor will be the sponsor of the project and needs to sign the charter to commence planning.

  • Communication plan designed using a standard template
  • Stakeholder register using a standard template
  • Scope Baseline including a list of product and project requirements. Exclusions and assumptions must be listed.
  • WBS Outline is created in MS Project
  • WBS Dictionaries are created

Resources: Templates and MS Project to create a WBS.

Project Part 3: Resource, Schedule, Cost and Risk Plans

The contents of this report include the following plans:

  • Resources: Develop a resource plan for your project using a Resource breakdown structure.  Create and assign resources to your tasks in MS Project
  • Schedule:
    • Estimate duration using the PERT technique. Apply this to one of the major summary tasks in your project schedule
    • Develop a network diagram to one of the major summary tasks of your project and identify critical paths. Write a short description explaining the significance of the critical path
  • Cost:
    • Apply analogous/bottom up and parametric techniques to determine project budget. Demonstrate how MS Project can be used to create a project budget
  • Risk Register
    • Identify risks and categorize into 3 important groups as related to your project
    • Analyze risks and prioritize them using qualitative techniques and develop
    • Create a response strategy

Project Part 4: Project Status Reports and Earned Value Analysis

  • Develop a scenario describing the current situation that your project is in. Using the appropriate formulas, prepare a status report and a forecast of your project performance.  Indicate current variances and indices and forecast the estimates and variances at completion.
  • Develop progress reports using MS Project showing
    • Tasks completed
    • Cost usage

Please follow the below template for the project requirements :
