This category includes standards for defining and communicating the institution’s mission, vision, and core values and aligning programs and services with these principles.

Mission Statement

DEI T COLLEGE is committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion by providing educational programs, services, and resources supporting students’ success from diverse backgrounds and identities. Staff, faculty, and students create memorable life experiences that value and celebrate diversity, promote social justice, and support the success of all students.

The vision of DEI T COLLEGE is to build a campus community that reflects the diversity of our world and prepares students to be responsible and engaged global citizens who can work effectively in diverse and multicultural contexts.

DEI T COLLEGE Goals

  • Providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or ability
  • Advocating for the needs and concerns of underrepresented and marginalized students and working to eliminate barriers to their success.
  • Offering cultural and educational programs and events celebrating diversity and promoting cross-cultural understanding
  • Collaborating with other departments and organizations on campus to embrace diversity and inclusion in all aspects of campus life, including curriculum, policies, and practices.
  • Conducting research and assessment better to understand the experiences and needs of diverse student populations and use this knowledge to improve programs and services.

CAS Standards II

These standards cover the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs that promote student success and development.  Each success program follows primarily the same format by which we obtain students.

 

DEI T COLLEGE Success Programs

  1. Educational Opportunity Program (EOP)

EOP refers to the federal government’s Educational Opportunity Program, which was created to support underserved and under-resourced students in pursuing higher education. The program provides various services and resources to help students overcome challenges to academic success, including academic advising, tutoring, financial aid, and other support services.

  1. Identify Eligible Students: The first step in implementing EOP is identifying the students eligible for the program. This typically includes students from low-income families, first-generation college students, and/or those from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic groups.

  1. Recruit Students: Once eligible students have been identified, the next step is to recruit them into the program. This might involve visiting high schools and community colleges to speak with prospective students, hosting information sessions and events, and communicating with students and families about the program’s benefits.

  1. Support Services: The heart of the EOP is its support services. This might include academic

  1. Monitor Student Progress: EOP staff should closely monitor students’ academic progress to ensure they succeed in college.

  1. Evaluate and Improve: It’s important to evaluate the program regularly to assess its effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

  1. Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Population (LSAMP)

 

LSAMP is a program designed to increase the number of historically underrepresented minority students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

  1. Identify target audience: Ensure targeted groups fall under the LSAMP guidelines.

  • Programming
  1. Brave Dialogue

A program designed to promote racial healing and understanding by facilitating open and honest conversations about race among diverse groups of people. The program provides tools and support to help participants navigate difficult topics and conversations.

  1. Display Programming

The displays embrace accurate and relevant information about diverse groups. Using inclusive language and storytelling is important to avoid reinforcing stereotypes while including diverse voices and perspectives from different communities.

    1. Women’s History Month, Black History Month, Hispanic History Month, etc.
  2. Cultural Food Festival – Host a feed festival where students can try foods from different cultures in partnership with Residence Life
  3. Film screenings and discussions: View culturally relevant films and host screenings followed by discussions that delve into the themes and issues presented in the movie in partnership with Student Services.
  4. ID Summit – The summit plays a vital role for T COLLEGE by bringing together experts in instructional design to share best practices, discuss emerging trends and technologies, and explore strategies for improving student outcomes.
  5. Community Conversations – Invite guest speakers from different cultural backgrounds, professions, and experiences to discuss various topics.
