Q2 The Concorde project was undertaken to produce the first supersonic commercial passenger aircraft. With a cruising speed of 2,140 kph it could travel at twice the speed of other commercial aircraft even when compared with current passenger aircraft. It entered service in 1976 and was retired from service in 2003.
Despite the passing of over 40 years since the introduction of supersonic passenger flight no similar service has been introduced. However, some companies are currently involved in developing a new supersonic aircraft. (20 marks)

A. Based on the Concorde experience, discuss three points that you think these companies could learn with a view to making the reintroduction of a similar service successful. (9 marks)

B. Identify and discuss the environmental challenges that modern supersonic aircraft developers must address. Suggest ways to overcome these challenges. (5 marks)
