Research Question: What were the underlying factors that led to the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021, and how did this event impact the political stability and governance of Haiti?
I truly struggle with this week, due to several factors both personally and professionally. The research will be conducted using a Political Instability Theory framework. This theory examines the conditions under which political instability occurs, including factors such as economic crises, social inequality, and political corruption. Which will help in answering my hypothesis What were the underlying factors that led to the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021, and how did this event impact the political stability and governance of Haiti? It will also provide understanding to the pre-existing conditions in Haiti that may have contributed to the assassination and the subsequent impact on the nation’s stability and governance.
In addition, I will also use Structural Functionalism, a sociological theory that attempts to explain why society functions the way it does by focusing on the relationships between the various social institutions that make up the Haitian society (e.g., government, law, education, religion, etc.). This theory will provide insights into how the assassination disrupted the normal functioning of these institutions and the subsequent effects on the stability and governance of Haiti.
Please note that the choice of theories is based on the specific focus of the research and the available data. I also want to use a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating insights from sociology, political science, and history to gain a comprehensive understanding of the situation. The research will also consider Haiti’s specific historical, cultural, and socio-political context.
