Choose either assessment Option A or Option B.

Option A

Step 1: Consider the following scenario.

  • With reference to your selected initiative identified in Assessment 1, senior management has expressed dissatisfaction with your team’s progress.

Step 2: Prepare a written report that would hypothetically be presented to senior management. It should outline:

  • how you will diagnose team issues that may be hindering progress
  • interventions that you will apply
  • the evaluation strategies that you will use to assess whether your interventions have resulted in improvements in staff productivity and performance and, ultimately, in patient outcomes.

Your intended actions should be based on a relevant theoretical approach, for example, social learning theory, transformational leadership, behaviourist learning theory, or other relevant theory of your choice.

Note that in Section 3: Background, you need to provide the context for the initiative or program. You should take some time to rework your rationale that you wrote as part of Assessment 1 and incorporate research from further readings.

Option B

Step 1: Consider the following scenario.

  • You have been appointed to develop a work-based mentorship program aimed at promoting a community of practice within a culture of safety.

Step 2: Prepare a written report to senior management outlining:

  • how you will implement the program
  • how you will evaluate the program
  • any potential challenges and management strategies.

Your intended actions should be based on a relevant theoretical approach.

You should also append an example agreement/contract or terms of reference document that will formalise arrangements between mentors and mentees (included in the word count).

General guidelines for your report

The following guidelines are applicable to both Option A and Option B.

  • Your report should be supported by at least 10 peer-reviewed journal articles, as well as any other textbook/s to help you deepen and expand your facilitative leadership knowledge and skills.
  • Use APA 7 referencing style.

You may use the following structure as a template for your report.

Recommended structure

  1. Title page (title of the report, your name and student number).
  2. Introduction (executive summary).
  3. Background (provide the context for the initiative or program).
  4. Diagnosis (for Option A; how you will diagnose team issues, and the interventions based on the relevant theoretical approach).
    Implementation plan (for Option B; the implementation plan and strategies you will use).
  5. Evaluation (the strategies you will use, a theoretical approach guiding the evaluation and include how outcomes will be measured).
  6. Conclusion.
