Assessment Brief
Part 1:
Assignment Description
For this coursework, you are required to design and justify the implementation of a network infrastructure for “HealthCareNet Solutions.”
Task: Design and Implement Network Infrastructure for “ HealthCareNet Solutions “
Brief:
Company: HealthCareNet Solutions
Industry: Health Sector
Objective: Develop a robust and scalable network infrastructure to support the increasing demand for telemedicine services, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and remote patient monitoring.
Background:
HealthCareNet Solutions is a national healthcare provider offering telemedicine services, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and remote patient monitoring. The organization is expanding rapidly, and its current network infrastructure is no longer sufficient to support high-volume video consultations, large-scale data storage, and secure patient communication.
Requirements:
- Bandwidth
- Security
- Scalability
- Reliability
Expected Outcomes:
- Enhanced user experience for medical professionals and patients.
- Secure, compliant data management in accordance with healthcare regulations.
- Scalable infrastructure to support future growth of the organization.
Part 1: Justify a Network Infrastructural Strategy (LO1)
Tasks:
- Bandwidth: Ensure smooth, high-quality video consultations for remote patient care.
- Security: Implement robust data encryption and secure access to patient records.
- Scalability: Design the network to accommodate future expansion, both in terms of services and user base.
- Reliability: Ensure continuous service with minimal downtime to avoid disruptions in patient care.
Deliverable (Part1): A detailed report presenting the proposed network infrastructure strategy, including justifications for each component.
Component | Maximum Mark |
Assessing organisation’s needs | 10 |
Network strategy | 20 |
Security measure | 15 |
Research and report writing | 5 |
Total | 50 |
Part 2: Apply Networking Principles and Protocols (LO2)
Tasks:
- Network Design: Develop a practical network layout tailored to the needs of the healthcare provider.
- Protocol Configuration: Set up networking devices (e.g., routers, switches) using appropriate protocols such as OSPF for routing and VPNs or IPSec for secure communication.
- Testing & Validation: Simulate the network and confirm it supports required services like video consultations, secure patient data transmission, and efficient storage access.
Deliverable (part 2)
- A practical network implementation plan.
- A demonstration of the network setup in a simulated environment – PacketTracer.
Assessment Criteria:
Accuracy: Solutions meet the requirements and address the given problems.
Justification: Clear and logical reasoning behind the proposed strategy and implementations.
Technical Competence: Correct application of networking principles and protocols.
Documentation: Detailed and clear documentation of the strategy, implementation steps, and testing procedures.
Part 3: Personal Reflection
Write a critical reflection on the outcomes of the assessment – in relation to your personal, academic and professional development. (200-250 words)
Marks Distribution | Component | Maximum Mark |
Part 2 | Network design | 20 |
Configuration | 10 | |
Testing and validation | 10 | |
Part 3 | Personal Reflection | 10 |
Total | 50 |
Declaration: At the end of the assessment, you should also include a declaration of any software tools including Generative AI (GAI) applications that you used in developing and completing the assessment.
